Am I missing something?

Okay so I havent broken up with the guy yet, and im not sure why I should exactly. I dont even get if im even his girlfriend yet either. Alotta of the stuff icluding him I dont get. Heres whats going on: I met up with a couple days ago for the first time alone. And we ended up making out and basically came to an agreement that the both of didnt want the other one to pursue anyone else. After that I told him that I might have come off as something other than myself and he said that he didnt think any less of me etc. So we hung out again the day after that and all we did was talk for a couple hours. Last night I texted him and he only said he wished he didnt have to work, I texted back then he didnt reply. A few hours later I texted back “k well have a good night!” then he sent back “yea you too”. Am I missing something?I dont get it? Its been about a week too, is it legit to ask what we are?

If this were me, I would ask him striaght up, are we dating and just get it out of the way
