How affected will I be by my poor A-Level results: 2 D's & an E?

(I’m not going to university anyway, I’m thinking more of employment)

Answer #1

Not too many employers look at your grades - they look at the fact that you graduated.

Answer #2

nah not relly?..but whats a E?

Answer #3

it will have an effect but it depends upon you either you study well next time (i would reccomend that if u can repeat or anything) or else as u said u may find employment. well goodluck from me and take it easy……

Answer #4

your next step is college if you want to improve. a lot of employers allow a day release to college. my mates daughter is a trainee chef and get a day release to learn/improve her word and maths skills.

some jobs do require certain qualifications within the a levels. find a job that requires no former experiance and doesnt matter what qualifications you have and build a career from there.

Answer #5

What the heck is an “E”. Is it the new F? To be honest, from what I know your grades in HS have NOTHING to do with your employment later in life.

Answer #6

sum1 in my family passed he paid to go to university he passed he went for a job he got turned down so it dusnt really help but it wud b gd if u passed

Answer #7

Depends on the employer. If the employer is only looking for a general standard of education, then grade isn’t that important. The fact that you passed is all that matters. If the subjects are directly relevant to the job, then they may prefer to take people with higher passes, so you could lose out in the competition for the post. All jobs in the UK are competitive just now, so employers can pick the best. It’s not all about grades though. If you have good abilities and would fit in well with the team, then grades won’t matter. You’d have to wait to re-sit anyway, so you can test the market in the meantime. If you get a job anyway, you can decide whether the re-sit and better grades would buy you more choices, or not. I took my first job before getting my results, because I didn’t expect good grades and my first choice uni declined me. I re-applied when the results came back better than expected and stayed with the job until uni, so I had some money behind me. That choice is still open to you, working for a year while you re-sit gives you a lot of experience that most undergrads don’t have. You can always go to uni next year if you find it would give you a better career. Working now gives you an edge when you come out of uni, because the other grads rarely have work experience. If you’re still uncertain, be brave and telephone or email the HR dept of any firm offering the sort of work that interests you and ask how they view it. It costs nothing to gather intelligence, and your research will give you more confidence come interview time as it will help you get your head together. Stay calm and think it through. The best jobs come to those who research and prepare. It’s a game, but you have to work out the rules! Good luck!

Answer #8

lol, it’s the british system, you get A*, A, B, C, D, E, U = ungraded

Answer #9

I live in the UK. An E is a passing grade, but the lowest passing grade. U is the new F.
