Advice for wrtting good songs that people want to hear

Me my cousin and my sister are making a band named CB3 and we only have two songs can anyone give some advice on how to make good songs that people want to hear were doing are concert this summer? And by the way were a country band.

Answer #1

What do you want the song to be about? It’s hard to give advice (or write a song) if you don’t know that. Country could be anything from…well, you know the regular stuff, like losing stuff like your dog, truck, girlfriend (boy), money, your job. Maybe going to prison or love, in love in prison

Answer #2

A song needs to evoke some kind of emotion to hit a chord (pun intended) with the listeners. Decide what emotion you are trying to evoke, and then draw on your own experience of times when you’ve felt that way. That’ll help with the lyrics, and then you need to make the sound match that emotion.

If you don’t know how to do that, there’s lot’s of online resources on chords and scales that evoke different emotions. You want to have the emotions evoked by the sound match with the emotions evoked by the lyrics either synchronously, or have the sound lead the lyrical emotions from time to time for a bit of drama - particularly if your song is switching from a happier segment to a sadder segment.

Frequently, a minor variation of a chord can change the tone from happy to meloncholy while still fitting the overall structure of the song.

Good luck!
