ADHD and trying to be in a relationship

Don’t look for the easy way out here … lay the blame where it’s due. You need to improve your own personality and stop looking for an escape route.

Selfishness is a symptom of a selfish person not of someone with ADHD. It seems that you have found your excuse for why relationships doesn’t work. Pretty convenient right?

Right so people here seem to forget ADHD is not rooted to one symptom…. Attention deficit disorder can very much cause you to “forget” feelings for a person, combine that with the methamphetamine does you receive daily and the effects are pretty clear, since the Desoxyn (trademark name for Meth) causes serotonin and dopamine receptors to withdraw the “good” feelings you get from being with someone are harder to achieve and thus the brain does not register love as a normal person (higher levels of dopamine and serotonin, coupled with proper Oxytocin reception) you see ADHD patients have a biochemical problem, thus meaning the hormones of Love (oxytocin) is not properly received, thus the logical conclusion is : the asker is innocent! and YES it is the ADHDs fault!

love = oxytocin a biochemical neuromodulator… ADHD = a genetic Biochemical disorder…. so yeah kinda have something to do with each other :P

ADHD does present some challenges for relationships. Difficulty focusing on our partner can make us seem distant and like we do not care; often when we are “in the zone” we really don’t want to be distracted until we are done so we might brush off our partner and make it seem like we care more about other things. Disorganization and procrastination means we might miss getting a card, present, and/or flowers on birthdays, anniversaries, Valentine’s day, etc. Impulse control is also difficult for us; we things that seem reckless or poorly thought out from time to time. Successful relationships are usually a combination of our overcoming some of our relationship damaging behaviors and finding an understanding partner who appreciates our effort even when things do slip through the cracks.

Not completely … a person still has the ability to make their own choices on how to treat others, ADHD or not. Notice he claimed to be “heartless”. Given that, one could use ADHD as an excuse for committing a violent crime … it’s not an excuse for murder and it’s not an excuse to save someone from admitting that they are simply selfish. My husband is ADHD, my son is ADHD, and I can tell you that neither of them are ever “heartless”.

I have never met anyone taking Desoxyn for ADHD. The most common medication is Methylphenidate (Ritalin, Concerta, Focalin (d- isomer)). Methylphenidate does not block the oxytocin effects and my enhance it. In animal studies amphetamines did block oxytocin and prevent pair bonding but the effect on humans is less clear. One of the reasons methamphetamine is more popular than amphetamines is the former is thought to be prosocial and the later antisocial.

Well these kind of pathologies are quite in the grey area to be honest, patients have similarities but not all the symptoms are the same, it’s more of what has been compromised and what not….

Fillet, ADD without hyperactivity does not require desoxyn i know that much…. i was talking about the hyperactive state which require other means of medication :) and seeing as desoxyn has been shown to have less side effects and it being more effective at enhancing concentration and lowering distractability i thought it would be perscribe so yeah :P
