I’ve heard of worse, my professor decided to give us a glimpse of a few different fetishes in my sexuality class. There are some things I just did not need to know.

haha my reproductive biology text book has some stuff on that! For some reason, the author felt the need to talk about sexuality in the first chapter, and this included a nice description of many fetishes. Disturbing.

Fetish is one of those words that we dont really like to use because it pathologizes behaviors that can be perfectly normal. So I’ll try and differentiate. To be diagnosable, a fetish needs to be interfering with a person’s life in some way (so if you’ve got someone who likes feet and their partner who enjoys their feet being touched, you have a match made in heaven, and no issues as far as the foot fetish is concerned). A good percent of people probably do have some sort of perfectly harmless fetish. You can’t say all, it is notoriously difficult to get certain populations to participate in sex research.

i have heard of people having a corpse fetish… not exactly harmless if you ask me.

I’ll repeat what I said if you like. To be DIAGNOSABLE, a fetish needs to be INTERFERING with a person’s life in some way. Given that it is illegal to be having sex or whatever with a corpse, that would be considered INTERFERING with someone’s life. I did not claim all fetishes were harmless. Just that most are. Also in such cases it is likely to be a paraphilia (in this case necrophilia) rather than just a fetish.
