2.3L porting

I was Wondering if porting and polishing a 87 Ford Ranger 2.3L EFI engine would help power at all… I’v heard porting makes no diffrence without bigger valves and a new cam… Please help

What a port and polish does is smooth your cylinder head surfaces so that there is less resistance to air flow. Any internal combustion engine is basically an air pump. The faster that air moves in and out the better it’s going to run and the more power you’re going to get. While a port and polish will make a difference, it’ll probably only be something you’ll notice on a dyno and not necessarily with your foot. Since it’s an 87 and possibly a little gunky in there, with maybe some valve deposits it may be noticalbe. Expect a 5 to 10 hp increase max..
