Where can I find a job at 13?

Where can I find a job for a 13-year-old that makes good money???

Answer #1

I am in this same position and would say that the only jobs available to you at the moment until you turn 14 is a paper round. When you turn 14 your can babysit, paper round, same cafes will let you waitor, some bars will let you go round the back and clean, you can house sit you can dog walk. If you have a parent, relative or close friend they mite be able to do you some jobs. I know my best mate gets payed £5 to do some jobs to do with his work for him. Without him not doing his work … you have to research but the best jobs with good-ish pay don’t come till 14. but you there is till stuff out there

“The Department of Labor’s Employment Standards Administration’s Wage and Hour Division (WHD) administers and enforces the federal child labor laws. Generally speaking, the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) sets the minimum age for employment (14 years for non-agricultural jobs), restricts the hours youth under the age of 16 may work, and prohibits youth under the age of 18 from being employed in hazardous occupations. In addition, the FLSA establishes subminimum wage standards for certain employees who are less than 20 years of age, full-time students, student learners, apprentices, and workers with disabilities. Employers generally must have authorization from WHD in order to pay subminimum wage rates.

Compliance materials related to hiring youth workers is available from the Office of Compliance Assistance Policy’s Web site.

The FLSA’s child labor provisions are designed to protect the educational opportunities of youth and prohibit their employment in jobs that are detrimental to their health and safety. The Department launched its YouthRules! initiative to promote positive and safe work experiences for young workers.

All states also have standards concerning youth employment. When federal and state standards are different, the rules that provide the most protection to young workers will apply.

Note that federal employment laws on safety and health, discrimination, benefits, etc. apply to youth, as well as to older workers.” http://www.dol.gov/dol/topic/hiring/workersunder18.htm

Many businesses will not hire minors because of the strict laboring laws. Minors can only work certain hours and those hours are limited. The business can get huge fines and lawsuits for not complying completely.

My suggestion is that you do things in your neighborhood. Shovel snow, rake leaves, mow grass, tend gardens, paint, babysit or do a paper route.

Answer #3

You can’t. You’re too young.

Answer #4

There are too many government restrictions for a 13 year old to work. But to make good money, would not be likely from a legitimate job. You have people with college degrees that can’t even find a good job or keep one. Unless you have some exceptional skills that are unique and in demand, you may have to settle for doing chores for pay, at least until you get some age and skills under your belt.

Answer #5

At 15, you can sell insurance through telemarketing.
