Was the Reformation a good or bad church movement?

Yes or No, Explain why.

Answer #1

That depends on what you consider good. Before the reformation, there was one large christian church, the roman catholic church. And this church had several issues. Some of the leading clerus were more politicians than clerics. And some of them were rather powerhungry and greedy.

After the reformation, the church split, there were several large churches, there was a quarrel over power, it lead to a big war throughout europe.

Yet, there were advantages. The roman catholic church was forced to deal with the issues that had made their people rebel and split off, rather than ignore them. And the other churches were trying to do “be the better church”.

So…. the reformation led to competition among several churches. Which was both good and bad. Good because it forced them to improve faults that would otherwise have been ignored. Bad because ppeople got killed in the process and christians were no longer a unity.

Somehow, you can say that the reformation was the revolution of faith. It broke a lot of things. It got bloody. But in the aftermath, it moved the prerogative of interpretation of religion from a single organization to multiple. It sort of made christianity a little more democratic.
