FunAdvice Trivia: Which President signed the Voting Rights Act?

A) Lincoln, in 1864 B) Nixon, in 1973 C) Hoover, in 1929 D) Johnson, in 1965

Answer #1

Lyndon B. Johnson

Answer #2

shoot! didn’t log in quickly enough. It is D) LBJ

Southerners had been leery of the Republican party ever since Lincoln freed the slaves. Democrat LBJ signing the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the Voting Rights Act of 1965 allowed the Republican party to take the South. After signing the Civil Rights Act LBJ commented that this act would cause Democrats to loose the South for decades to come. Few politicians are willing to do the right thing even if they know it will work against them. Even today I notice that LBJ is reviled by most Southerners old enough to remember him.
