FunAdvice Trivia: Which animals is catgut made from?

At least among musicians and tennis players they are usually referred to simply as “gut” strings instead of “catgut.” Cats were never a source for gut strings; their intestines are not long enough to be useful. Nobody knows for sure how they came to be called catgut. Historically they have been made from sheep intestines but any animal with long enough intestines can be used so I’ll say ‘D.’ Cows and goats are sometimes used so ‘B’ is also correct. In tennis rackets and stringed instruments gut strings are rarely used any more. Gut strings react to moisture and can loose tension and go out of tune more easily than synthetic. Synthetic strings do an admirable job in these uses and last longer without as much fuss as gut but tennis players who want a traditional feel and musicians who want a traditional feel and sound still select gut.

I’m going to say D) Horses and Sheep. But I believe many different animals intestines were used throughout history. It is a bygone era of making strings but I think some countries still do make them.
