How do you handle an attention-seeking puppy?

Butterscotch is three months old and very demanding. When I’m trying to work, and not paying her a lot of attention, she gets up on the table and sits there until I notice her … it’s like that whole “bad behaviour gains attention” issue. After I tell her to get down, she comes running over and tries to jump in my lap. It’s not like she’s neglected - when I’m not working she gets all the attention she wants.

I find the situation funny, but at the same time, I’m concerned that my spoiled brat is taking advantage of me, lol

Any tips on how to stop her attention-seeking?

Okay well wat my fam does is we keep puppies in play pins to keep them out of mischief and 1 time we had a prob with parvo virus so we kept theem in it to keep them safe. U can also get her a rawhide bone, that will keep her busy and also u need to work her so she gets worn out and wants to rest so take her on a walk. That would be good 4 both of u! :D Walking or running with ur pup is a gr8 thing to do. ;) And u could also make a spot 4 her to sleep right under ur feet so she feels close to u while u r working. :)

I don’t believe in penning dogs, and she has far more toys than she knows what to do with. It’s not because she’s bored … it’s because she’s needy :)

Answer #3

O…kaay. . Well then make her doggie bed under ur feet! :D She wants to be close to u and u want her out of ur lap! :DD That’s all I can possibly come up with 4 right now… If I have any more ideas I’ll let u know. :)

Answer #5

No … none of my kids were ever put in a play pen.

Answer #7

I hope it works out! ;D

Answer #8

I found that crate training a puppy can help with that

Answer #9

It’s like that whole “bad behaviour gains attention” issue lol, yes… so don’t give her attention. No matter how cute she is and how much you want to laugh. And honestly, you could probably try to punish her (I find time outs quite effective with my cat). But why not just not reward her instead? She’ll stop eventually. You just need to be consistent in ignoring the behavior. She’s also a baby. They grow out of some of it eventually. And unless the table is somewhere she really shouldn’t be (like a kitchen table). Just ignore her. She’ll get down eventually.

Answer #10

I don’t believe in crating … I see no reason to lock a puppy in a box just to keep her quiet.

Answer #11

I don’t mean keep the puppy in thr all the time, but when they get like that its sort of a punishment, like puttin a child in timeout

Answer #12

i would give her toys to play with and pet her when she comes pestering. she’s still young and rambunctious. with any luck she will calm down. i would slowly teach her to play on her own and to entertain herself. my dog used to do that and now she is content as long as she’s in a room where someone is and sleeps alot =)

Answer #13

IGNORE it. :) hehe.

Answer #14

IGNORE it. :) hehe.

Answer #15

thats what i did, then she stopped being so stuck up my butt, she would be under my feet all the time, then she finally learned i’m not going anywhere and just sleeps all the time haha

Answer #16

well why don’t you just put her out side so she run around and have fun while you work and once your finished you can let her back in. you have to teach her she cant always have your attention 24/7 its ok to give her some attention but at the same time show her who the boss is you not her
