Do you interpret things literally or figuratively?

“The doctor told me I did well through the surgery, how could I have done well if I was asleep?”

I usually try figuratively, I tennd to get mocked when I interpret things literally my friends are very sarcastic

There’s more than one literal interpretation. To do well means one performed well. One could technically perform sleep well.
