This is something you need to go through in order to be able to come to terms with it. Distractions work for a little while, but if you never deal with it, it will never stop hurting. Take the time you need to mourn the loss of your niece…you’ll come out that much stronger for it later and I have a feeling there are a few other people in your life who will need your strength to deal with this themselves. Don’t hide from your sorrow…let it run its course.

I agree 100%, I would also add seeking professional help, because sometimes we need a little guidance helping us in the right direction so we dont just bury it til it surfaces up only hurting 100x worse. You should also spend time with the family(that is your major support system right there!) Also try to focus on some of the good times, not just the fact that she is gone…for they are all you have left to hold on to…and that is a precious thing! ♥

Colleen is right…..there is no distractions for a huge loss. Grief is mother nature’s way of learning to accept what has happened….it’s painful, I know…but better than the pain of it festering inside for years to come. Allow yourself to grieve in your own way, for as long as YOU need to….

I’m so sorry for your loss…

I agree with both Colleen and temptress. I have nothing to add. :)

Answer #5

As the queen of avoidance, I could tell you a 1000 ways to not think. And sometimes, yeah, you’re going to need a break from grieving and time to just not think about it, but you’re going to have to deal at some point. So try not to make it your job avoiding it. It’s a lot healthier to deal now, then to have it affect you forever.
