Well he’s been gone 10 years- can you forgive someone who walked out on you and your child for so long. Was there any contact, phone calls, emails? If not then it makes this situation harder as that is seriously a bad father.

If there has been some interest on his behalf then I would give it a shot. I’m all for family’s being reunited but sometimes children are fine as they are with one parent. Do you think your child needs to meet there father? because that’s what it comes down to- the child’s interests and feelings. Maybe you could drop it in to conversation “Do you ever want to meet Daddy?” “Do you wish you had Daddy around” or something similar and observe there reactions. If the child blatantly doesn’t want to meet him then obviously don’t go there.

it all boils down to- do you think the child is ready and willing. Are they mature enough to understand that he might not be around forever. If he was to leave that would probably really affect the child. You need to check the circumstances, speak with the Dad- almost test him to understand his intetnions and also speak with the child.Good luck
