well we did this in PE but we did 2 miles, then 3 then 4. all you’ve got to do is take it a little bit at a time. you could try using your MP3 or ipod, get a song with a good beat and some speed in the song, and that’ll get you going

Oh another thing you could do is not make excuses. I’ve learned from multiple experiences if you make excuses as to why you ‘cant’ do something, your body will really start to not do it all because you think you can’t.

Aw I know, runnning is tough especially when you don’t normally run. Don’t worry, it’s not just you, in tough for everyone. The first bit of running you do is always the most difficult, so if you can get through that, hopefully it will get easier. Concentrate on keeping your breathing controlled, trying not to breathe to quickly. Sometimes it is easier to ignore your breathing, just let yourself breather naturally, which is easier with an iPod-you could ask your PE teacher if you’re allowed to listen to an iPod or MP3player while you run, it will distract you from the pain. You can also try to play mind games with yourself, sing songs in your head, daydream, count to 100, whatever. I hope it gets easier for you! Good Luck!! :)

Oh I’m in the same boat honey. I hate doing it but I do it because I have to. Try drinking a little water before running to keep you hydrated and definately some after. While running, try running 10 seconds then walking 20. Keep the run 10 walk 20 for a while and hopefully you could change to run 20 and walk 30 as the mile (or semester) continues.

Also go to your doctor and have them check for asthma. If you’ve already done that and you don’t have asthma, then just try and make it through the mile as best possible.

And yeah running gonna hurt. My swim coach always tells me that if it hurts, you’re getting stronger/better.

start running/walking daily … so when you do run you wont feel as “out of breath” as easily !!! also being out of breath when you run is not good because you are in a bad physical state.. !!! and need to tell your doctor ! BUT when you are in P.E. take your time.. set a pace and jog .. breathe in with your nose and breathe out with your mouth..take an ipod/mp3 to make the run a little more fun>>> also you could run the sides and walk (with your hands up = for it calms your heat rate) the curves :

Everybody is that way. Whenever you run out of breath, just walk until you have gained your breath back, but if it’s really tiring you out, let your teacher know about the problem. If they are nice enough, they will let you sit out the rest of the period. Just run as much as you can, don’t push yourself.

PE is a very easy course, don’t just give up cause you don’t feel like running.

im also heavy set but thats no excuse on why you can’t run because i can run 3 miles nonstop. From how you described it you are out of shape. Dont take any easy ways out just start jogging daily to get your cardio in better shape which will help with your breathing and also will build muscle in your legs so they wont hurt as much. Never tell yourself you cant do it because your body is probably more than capable of doing it you just created a negative mindset so you dont. Like the other people said breath in through your nose and out through your mouth. I usually inhale twice through my nose and let out a deep breath. Just keep running and you should be fine and loose weight in the process! =D
