How can I get into shape for track?

When I was in 6th grade I ran a 200m race in 36 seconds. I’m pretty sure that’s really good..lol anyway now I’m really slow and my one friend who does track is slow too and shes faster than me! I suck right now, please give advice on getting in shape and getting faster. I’m running track and cross country for high school next year and they don’t make cuts but I’m still going to be the slowest so please help. any advice is appreciated!

Since it is before track season the best thing you can do now is base miles.

Get out and run a lot of miles; you don’t have to go super hard or fast but do longer runs.

If you fear running injuries than try cross training; do some light weight high rep weight training, swimming and/or cycling to get your base conditioning without the stress of running.

After your base miles or conditioning work on speed and power.

Running hills, doing sprints, and intervals will give you a strong kick and ability to go deep anaerobic when necessary in races.

I do cross country and track in high school. before this I was not even able to run one mile! if I can do it, you can. you need to start out with a 20 minute run. this way you can go at your own pace in that time, not focusing on running a certain amout of miles. you will notice that you run farther throughout that time as the weeks go on. try to get out and run atleast 5 times a week, or everyday if you can, some easier then others. trust me these sports require a lot of hard work and dedication, if you want to be good, you HAVE TO work hard and just try your best. also, as you are running, try not to stop as much as possible. if you really need to, dont feel bad its ok. if you feel like you are really tired, just slow down but remember to try not to stop. hope I’ve helped love.

Answer #4

U should run everyday and that will make you faster! My timing in the 200m is 30 seconds but urs is good 2! I love High jump! (just saying!) you should @ least work out and get your body in shape or your coach should b doing that.

Answer #5

you need to get out and run. on the first time go slow then work your way faster and faster you will find that each time is a better time that is how my sister is so good the coach just did that with her for a month, and after she was fast and that was when she was eight, know she holds almost all the records at our middle school and high school

what you need to do is a daily work out, that’ll keep you muscels from cramping alot. try sit ups, push ups, etc. (remember to stretch before you do anything!) then you need to jog a mile or 2 everyother day, that’ll help you’re breathing. If you can’t jog a mile straight, then try jogging for a little while, and then speed walking , and so on. i know this sounds stupid, but i’m like a work-out freak, and trust this does work.
