Braces to Retainers...dreading it

okay…well I’m getting my braces off next week and I was wondering if you knew anything about retainers I know that I have to have them full time…but I heard that it takes them a week to make and get them to you?? but what do they do between the time you get the braces off and get the retainers? do they just leave it with nothing on your teeth or do they have something for temporary use until you get the retainers?

im guessing this is a health catagory?

Hey I had braces for 4 years. When it was the day to FINALLY get them off, I had two appointments. In the morning, I got them removed and made a cast of my teeth. They sent me away for a few hours so they could form the retainers (I have permanent both top and bottom). Over this break, they kept my front four brackets on my teeth tied together, just so they wouldn’t shift back. Then in the afternoon, I got the last of them off and the retainers put in. So if you are getting a permanent one (and if your orthodontist is like mine) it should only take a few hours for them to fit them for you. You get use to them, trust me. But yeah, I think a removable retainer might take longer. If you’d have the option, I’d go with permanent, just because you dont have to worry about putting it in or taking it out (well, and losing it). Plus, you can’t see permanent ones. Just don’t stress about it. Oh yeah, your teeth will probably feel slimy to your tongue at first when you get them off and it feels like freedom!! Good luck!!!

Yeah same here, I had two appointments in one day. I had a removeable clear retainer. It was really annoying. Plus I didn’t wear it as much as I should of, they want you to wear them for years! I’m lucky though, my teeth stayed in place!
