Is Accelerade better than Gatorade?

There is this new sports drink called accelerade. It has 4:1 Carbs to Protein. Is this better than traditional drinks such as Gatorade and why?

Answer #1

Sports nutrition companies constantly try to find new angles to market their products.

One research study found that athletes who used a sports drink with carbohydrates and protein could exercise slightly longer before exhaustion than the group that used a sports drink that only contained carbohydrates.

Next week another researcher doing another study may find that it makes no difference or adding protein has a negative effect. If one study shows a benefit companies can keep refering to it in their marketing.

The company that makes accelerade is so proud of the ratio of 4-1 for carbohydrates to protein they actually patened it. Wow, I should patent sports drinks with 3-1 and 5-1 ratios just in case a study I fund shows that athletes drinking one of these can exercise 1% longer than that old fashioned 4-1 ratio drink.

OMG! I just looked at my Oatmeal Raisin Walnut Clif Bar:.43 gm of carbohydrates and 10 gm of protein.which is about 4-1. Someone call a lawyer.
