When to use a weight belt?

At about what weight would it be necessary to use a weight belt for dead lifts and squats?

Answer #1

There is a lot of debate about use of weight belts.

Some say that relying on weight belts let your back get weak and that with proper conditioning of your back and abs that you don’t need a weight belt.

Others point out that weight belts allow you to dead lift more weight without injury.

I used to wear a weight belt for dead lifts but I’ve never used them for squats. The last few years I haven’t used weight belts at all but then again I’m not lifting as heavy as I did when I was younger.

Answer #2

it depends how much you are able to lift without difficulty I personally never use one though so I guess it just depends
