Kitten refuses to stop urinating on bed.

My boyfriend and just got a 7 week old kitten. I can tell she has a little bit of seperation anxiety and misses her family.

On day two, she decided our bed made a beautiful toilet. I’ve been reading, and I know very well and knew before to never punish a cat, specifically a kitten in a new environment. So, we changed the sheets and went on with life. I made sure to get her some toys and throw in 15-20 minute play sessions several times.

Day 3, she did it again. Its NOT that she doesn’t like her litter box, she uses it. We praise her when she does with treats and love.

Day 5, I wake up to Skyy urinating on my HIP. No punishment still, I just put her in her room and changed the sheets. That night, after we got home (shes been near her litterbox for the past 4 hours, mind you) we’re chilling on the bed, she’s cudldled up and friendly. And bam, I feel something warm on my elbow. I immediately pick her up and carry her to her box. Nothing. I’ve tried everything short of the vet ( she went before we got her. and everything was fine). I’m getting VERY FRUSTRATED.

She’s not specific with which side of th bed she uses either…

What else can I possibly do?

My cat would use the box most of the time, she just wouldnt use it some of the time… I got rid of the cover and the problem stopped completely… so you never know… and

Answer #2

As I said, she just when to the vet before we got her. its been about a week and a half since then. Our bed isn’t too high, we have no bed frame, so its an easy jump for her. She uses her box. We’ve decided just to keep her out of our room, and we haven’t had a problem yet. We just won’t let her back in. And I’ve caught her mid-pee and shown her her litter box. I don’t know. I guess she just can’t come in our room. Thanks everyone though. :/

Answer #3

Whenever you catch her peeing or see right after she pees, make sure she sees it and set her in her litter box so she knows and try making more boxes available and also make sure the bed isn’t too high off the ground because she could be scared to jump down from the bed and can’t hold it in any longer so she goes on the bed. Or she could have a bladder problem such as an infection only your vet can tell.

Answer #4

I clean her box everyday. Her box is in a corner in the bathroom and the door is always open for her. Like I said, its not that she doesn’t like her litterbox, because she uses it 85% of the time.

Answer #5

She may have been separated from her mother too soon. So it may just be that she needs time to grow out of it. Get the vet to check her for a urinary tract infection. There’s sprays you can buy to neutralize the smell so she doesnt keep coming back to the bed.

Try these Get an additional box Make sure box is not in high traffic area (I.e. not where loud noises occur, or where people are a lot) Try uncovered box Try covered box Try another type of litter (only in new box!) Clean out box regularly - like everyday
