How to care for betta fish???

I have a red male betta that I got at wal-mart about a month ago he is doing great thank god! I have him in a 1 gallon goldfish bowl and he seems to like it but loves to stay in the plastic weeds. I was wondering if I should get a bigger tank with a filter because I have to change the water every week because the goldfish bowl doesn’t have a filter. Also I ready they like warmer water. Is that true? So I was thinking about a 3 or 5 gallon tank with a light and heater. Any advice on this? I feed him the betta food pelets and he seems to be liking that. But my concern is his fins. There a little ragged looking. They were like that when I bought him but he was the best looking one they had at the time. Are there any good books for beginner bettas? I had one a few years ago but he didn’t live long. Thanks for any advice!

I see that they do have a filter…it’ll help keep the fish much healthier than in a simple fish bowl (same thing happend to ours, as we didn’t have a filter).
