how can I (a dancer on pointe) relieve bunion pain?

I am a dancer, and it seems that the pain I have in the joint of my big toe is a bunion. it hurts when I roll up onto pointe about when i go through 3/4 pointe. any suggestions from dancers on how to relieve the pain?

well first of all that is something that cant be stopped so easily!

  1. you have to see a pedicurist to have that removed. what it is your toe rubbing against the material in the shoe causing you to have dry skin & after a while it turns into a bunion! after you have it removed make sure you use a lot of moisturizing cream on your feet…especially that area…then try using a special stone for pedicures and add some cream then run the area…try to allow it to dry naturally then apply Vaseline petroleum jelly on the area & all over your toes & feet and once again scrub using the special stone to smooth & break away any bunions or dry skin you may have…now cover your feet with a thin pair of cotton socks. Go to sleep with it on and take it off in the morning just so it penetrates the skin combines with your body heat! This is the treatment i taught my students when I taught them how to do a pedicure!

try doing it for 2-3x a week after a shower preferably for about 1-3 months depending on how fast your skin progresses with the treatment!

hope this helps!

thankyou for your detailed answer, but that does not seem to be my problem. perhaps it is not actually a bunion that I have. (I was researching common foot problems on dancers and that seemed to fit my symptoms but I may be confused) I feel pain inside the joint when I roll up on or off of pointe. any ideas what my problem is? that joint on my toe appears to be enlarged when compared to my good foot. I appreciate any input! -Kelly

i was a dancer for 10 years and know exactly what u mean!! to be honest the only thing you can do is try toe separators thats what i did…but u might need to get wider pointe shoes that might help. also make sure u arent rolling when u go through 3/4 pointe up to pointe as this will make it worse, try to make sure the weight is on all the toes and not just the big one. hope this helps! good luck! believe me i feel your pain! x
