Why respect the priest?

As much as you may belive in god why should you have extra respect for a priest, to my eyes he’s just an ordinary person like anyone else, the’ll die the same and has to find a way to make a living the same as anyone else,
So are they suposed to be closer to god, I think there’s no difference between any person.

Answer #1

You’re right in knowing that a priest is just a human like you and me. They are servants of God. Just like any Christian. They are not to be bowed to or anything or be called “father”. There is only one father, and that is God. But they deserve the same respect that you would give to anyone.

No wait Tennent, rather answer me on a PM because this has nothing to do with Advice any more, other members do not necessarily want to share this conversation anymore!

Answer #3

Jane of the Jungle: Are you just a Trouble maker looking for trouble or are you just to big for your pants! or both, sounds like someone urinated in your CEREAL,are you able to have a respectable conversation or are you just mad at the whole world besides me?.

Answer #4

Big for my pants??? Do yourself a favour and check what a person’s age is before you make such assumptions! OR do you know my age and is it your opinion that women do not speak out or to be inferior to men?

If you could kindly stop making sarcastic remarks, I would consider having a respectable conversation! Sarcasm is the first sign of a rotten brain …

… are you just mad at the whole world besides me?. Please explain to me, why in this life would I be mad at the entire world, according to you?

I’ve got an idée you really cant imagine a life WITHOUT a Supernatural being and assume a person can only be mad at the world, confused and scared??? On the contrary you would be amazed!!!

Answer #5

Ooooh Tennent please grow up and then do yourself a favour and get a life!!!

By the way - It is NOT in your power to cause a situation in MY life Tennent, even though you might like to think so or telling yourself that!
;-)

Answer #6

Jane of the Jungle, you sound Confused and Scared at the same time? Most Clergy people only talk about Death just to let people know that yes it could happen at any time and to be prepared “Spirtitually” and as far as to how much time (is in reference to how that person lives).Every piece of info I come up with comes from the Hole Bible and Wisdom of age and others. You must be considerate of everything around you to survive.Just remember Death and Life are opposites each of them comes into being from the other. If a person Dies then he or she must live again. And before are physical Life began we new nothing of anything this info was meant to be before are bodys existed.Example,Beauty,Justice we know these things through are senses.Think about it.

Answer #7

Tennent - Jane of the Jungle, you sound Confused and Scared at the same time?

Oh yeah what brings you to this conclusion???
What am I Confused about and what am I Scared of according to you?

Please don’t make a statement, because you feel the urge to fill an empty space on your screen!!!

Answer #8

… Death is haunting all of us.

No wrong, Death is only haunting the ones who want to be haunted!!! Why are you so obsessed with death, darn be more obsessed with LIFE, be more positive in the life you live!

it’s up to the individual on what path to take and you “only have a certain amount of years to prove yourself”

Wooo hooo there you go again!

You could die tomorrow (religious or not), or you can live to be a 100 filled with fear and preparing for death the entire time, what kind of life is that???

Answer #9

First thing, anyone willing to give their time up and stand in front of people and preach the word from the Holy Bible is a Light Bearer and good for that person and that person will be Blessed, that person has feelings aswell and knows Death is haunting all of us. That person is wise and knows something created what we see, their’s more to life then what we know.Yes everyone is different, looks, personality, beliefs;etc.it’s up to the individual on what path to take and you only have a certain amount of years to prove yourself, will you go down the ever so wide Evil path or the narrow Gracious path,it’s your decision.Good luck!

Answer #10

Jane of the Jungle,Sorry if I caused a situation in your life.

Answer #11

Well, if you think these priests have special knowledge they pass on, then they are worthy of respect. However, if you think the priest class consists of a bunch of leaches preying on the weak minded for their own benefit, then they deserve disdain.

There are of course, intermediate options.

Answer #12

The priest is supposed to lead an exemplary life, just as any Christian should, however, one who teaches or leads, is held to greater accountability, according to the bible, than one who dosn’t.

It really is an important role, to attempt to lead others into relationship with God, and should be respected as such. However, this does not mean that the priest or preacher is any holier than anyone else, it just means that he should be more responsible.

Answer #13

The respect you show a priest is comparable to that of a teacher, or a mentor…he is an authority of the church.

I’m an atheist and I still think a priest deserves a modicum of respect, just like any figure of authority.

Answer #14

Smoky, look at Toadaly answer on your other Q – If you believe … (also true on this Q) If you question the bible or priests then, rather look into the info available and first make sense out of what they are trying to get across to you. All of us got the ability to use our brains, it is up to us to use the info or just pretend it make sense!

If you think of the fact that priest’s/ministers/pastors do NOT practice what they themselves Preach or do what the bible tell them to, like in the following examples: (which I have mentioned before)

1 - In Matthew 6:5-8, Jesus tells Christians how to pray: “And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by men. I tell you the truth, they have received their reward in full. But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. And when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words. Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him.” Does your Minister, Pastor or Priest pray in public like a hypocrite? Does he babble on and on? If so, he is defying Jesus.

2 - Christians keep quiet 2 In 1 Thessalonians 4:11-12, Christians are encouraged to live quietly: Make it your ambition to lead a quiet life, to mind your own business and to work with your hands, just as we told you, so that your daily life may win the respect of outsiders and so that you will not be dependent on anybody. Is your Minister, Pastor or Priest living a quiet life, working with his hands and minding his own business?

3 - Christians do not have wealth In Matthew 6:19-21, Jesus tells his followers to give up on possessions: “Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. In Matthew 19:21 Jesus says: “If you want to be perfect, go, sell your possessions and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.” Does your Minister, Pastor or Priest live in a nice house, drive a nice car, wear nice clothes? Why? Why isn’t he listening to Jesus?

4 - Christians can demonstrate that they are Christians In Mark 16:17-18, Jesus is very clear about what True Christians will be able to do to demonstrate their belief: And these signs will accompany those who believe: In my name they will drive out demons; they will speak in new tongues; they will pick up snakes with their hands; and when they drink deadly poison, it will not hurt them at all; they will place their hands on sick people, and they will get well.”

Can your Minister, Pastor or Priest drink poison without dying? If not, according to Jesus, he must not believe.

Yes it is True, I did only display a few verses from the bible, but isn’t that exactly what all religions do? Only difference is, they discuss verses which makes most sense to them OR are the most acceptable in “these” days, because if they don’t, they would scare away more and more youth and THAT is exactly the opposite from what they want. If they can manage to keep the youth in churches, they have a future, if not, you know what the outcome would be!

Simple Example: When I was young, churches preached all about how harsh god is and all about satan, which scared the living crap out of all of us! For the past 10 years or so they’ve changed it to the god of love and zoom in on the “nicer” more acceptable verses. Why? Because churches were closing down, one by one and they needed a different approach to keep the members up!
