Why do they stay right by his side regardless ?
Ladies, can you help me understand: How do you explain this ‘Stand by your man regardless’ syndrome we’ve seen: Hillary with Bill’s multiple affairs / Mrs McGreevey beside him at the podium / Mrs Spitzer beside him at the podium and others in both parties - Why is there no shame displayed as should be with their lives/reputations/families trampled by their mate - Why do they stay right by his side regardless ?
Me too, TYPICAL: Hillary with Bill’s multiple affairs / Mrs McGreevey beside him at the podium / Mrs Spitzer beside him at the podium and others in >>> both parties <<< - helps if you read the question :-)
The ‘Cheater’ no doubt deserves ALL the blame but in the John Edwards case, he said he told her about it in ‘06 - yet she was at his side when he was on the campaign trail in ‘07 touting good ‘moral values’ - don’t understand when she knew it was a lie…only 1 word comes to mind for both: integrity.
I just read this in a Ben Shapiro article and I think it hits the nail on the head:
That Americans actually have to question whether Spitzer will resign demonstrates one deeply perturbing fact: We have lost our sense of shame.
And don’t forget David Vetter, the family values guy who was also caught patronizing high class call girls. The republicans gave him a standing ovation when re first came back to the senate. There is no such support being shown to spitzer from Dems, and that is the way it should be.
Republican hypocrisy has no end…
I can’t answer for these women but I can tell you that my first husband was caught doing something illegal, immoral and shameful. I divorced him as soon as it was legally possible and I haven’t looked back.
I am sure none of these women were forced to stand by their men. I understand the sentiment of some who think it is wrong, but it is a very individual and private decision. No one posting here, sitting behind their keyboards can relate to the pressures of public life that these people lead. Making those decisions aren’t easy, and people should not be so quick to condemn them until one has walked in a mile in their shoes.
Clinton, McGreevey and Sptizer are all Democrats…
I did read it. But still, you mentioned 3 Democrats. Typical.
Maggie Gallagher in her column:
No animal would plan for its mate as exquisite a humiliation as Eliot Spitzer inflicted on his wife, Silda Wall Spitzer, Monday afternoon in broad daylight, in front of us all. Can we at least end this barbaric practice of dragging your wife before the cameras while you confess your shameful guilt? If she wasn’t there in the hotel room when you did your crime, don’t ask her to do your time.
I dont think its a question of political party or sexual orientation, individuals choose to stay with their partner because of many different reasons. Who are we to judge somebody for being a forgiving person. Its a shame that we are questioning the person who stays with a cheater rather than the cheater himself or herself. I sure as hell wouldnt stay with anyone after they had cheated. Its just a trust issue on my part. Once someone loses my trust its very hard to regain and I dont take kindly to being taken advantage of.
Just saw Robin McGraw (who I respect very much) addressing the Spitzer wife ‘standing by her man’ and she said “No way would you ever find her anywhere near there !!’
To imply that these women were “forced” to stand by their man and face public humiliation implies that they are props and lacking in free will and intelligence. For whatever reasons, they have made the decision to stand, in a public forum, and support their husbands. We cannot imagine what had transpired in their private lives before taking the podium.
Nice one editor. And honestly you covered it all… The women chose to stand by their men, why shouldnt they have that choice? Sometimes it is for gain (political, wealth, or otherwise) and im sure sometimes it is because they love their husbands. Just because their issues are on TV doesnt make them different from other couples. We dont hear about other couples who have stayed together through infidelity because they’re not famous, but Im sure there are a few… Why should anyone judge these wives just because they’re unfortunate enough to have their private lives on display?
Interesting…
3/14/08: The former treasurer for the National Republican Congressional Committee diverted hundreds of thousands of dollars – and possibly as much as $1 million – of the organization’s funds into his personal accounts, GOP officials said yesterday, describing an alleged scheme that could become one of the largest political frauds in recent history.
For at least four years, Christopher J. Ward, who is under investigation by the FBI, allegedly used wire transfers to funnel money out of NRCC coffers and into other political committee accounts he controlled as treasurer, NRCC leaders and lawyers said in their first public statement since they turned the matter over to the FBI six weeks ago.
Because sometimes things take sacrafice.
Im not affraid to lose my reputation, because to me personally, I feel so honored to be by the guy of my choices side.
and I think the fact that we, as americans, have to ask if he will resign, is based on those who don’t resign. senator larry craig comes to mind. when asked by fellow republicans to resign, he refused.
good one, editor!
I think this is kind of a sexist question, first of all. It surely implies that they are the second-in-command in the relationship and may not even have the ability to think for themselves.
Not to mention that perhaps the vow they took at the altar is influencing their decision. I’d have though you’d think marriage was an important institution? Even if the men couldn’t keep their pants zipped, maybe the women want to honor that vow and give them a second chance.
I also find it TYPICAL that you would find three Democrats to pick, reaching as far back as Clinton’s presidency in the 90s, when there are far more scandalous Republicans in the news overall.
Look at Mark Foley and his disgusting pedophiliac tendencies with little boys. Gay and a pedophile.
Ted Haggard: Paying male prostitutes for sex and snorting crystal meth.
Larry Craig (Mitt Romney’s Campaign Liason): Soliciting sex from an undercover cop in an airport bathroom
Bob Allen: Offering an undercover cop $20 to allow Allen to blow him in a men’s room in a public park.
Glenn Murphy, JR: (National Chairman of the Young Republicans): Raped another man while he was sleeping.
“It just keeps popping up, scandal after scandal, homophobic lawmaker after anti-gay preacher after gay marriage attacker after hooker-loving “family values” adulterer, Bob Allen to Ted Haggard to Jim West to Glenn Murphy Jr. to David “Diaperman” Vitter,so many examples of Christian Republicans suddenly caught with his pants down around his boyfriend’s ankles.”
