Health issues.

Health issues: This is the time where the industrial revolution was coming into play in America. We were having many factory jobs spring up from nowhere, with little or no workers compensation if people got injured on the job. At this time we also had no regulations on food (we now have the FDA), so there were loads of diseases from tainted meat, unpasteurized milk, and other things like that.

Child labour had existed before the Industrial Revolution, but with the increase in population and education it became more visible. However, laws against child labor were passed in the mid to late 1800s, before the Progressive era.

@Josefina: Conservation was the last thing on people’s minds at this time…with the industrial revolution, the environment was not high on their list of priorities. And AIDS didn’t even exist then…the first case wasn’t reported until the early 1980s lol.
