Are water colour paints similar to water based paints?

I’m looking for some water based paints but can’t find them anywhere, I’ve seen water colours but wasn’t sure if their the same thing or similar. Anybody know please?

Answer #1

water color paint is a solid block of color, that becomes paint when you add water. Water base paints, come in liquid form and are more like a latex paint. Hope this helps :)

Answer #2

Oh and its nearly impossible to create a depth with a watercolor paint, but as with a water base paint, you can apply thick coats of color.

Answer #3

Right so I’d need to add some water to these water colour onces I got?

Answer #4

yes. what you can do is get your brush wet, and rub the paint until your brush tip is coated in the color.

Answer #5

Both Acrylic and Gouache are water based as well. Water colors are translucent and the pigment isn’t as lightfast, so the application of the watercolor paint differs considerably from other water based paints. Watercolor painting requires an approach similar to painting oil washes because the background will always carry through to some extent.
