Swollen thyroid

I’ve been sick with cold/flu symptoms for about a week now. Most of my symptoms have subsided but my thyroid is swollen. It hurts, and it’s caused pressure on my throat so it makes it hard to swallow anything.

Is a swollen thyroid common with a cold/flu? I did have mono a few years ago, and the same sort-of thing happened, maybe is it a small re-occurrence/relapse of mono (I hear that happens sometimes)??

I just had a check-up at my doc’s, had a full bloodwork done for the thyroid & parathyroid hormones, all checked out normal.

All the lymph nodes in my neck seem a little swollen (they keep making my ears pop - lol), but definitely the thyroid is swollen too, I can make out the shape of the thyroid and everything… it’s a little gross. :-P

Peanuts, Its mid march. Are you still having the problem?

It’s not that common for colds of flu to bring on a swollen thyroid gland. Are you sure it’s not your submandibular glands which are swollen, or lymph nodes near your thyroid (there’s some lymph glands which pass around or very close to the thyroid gland). If you’ve had thyroid problems in the past, I’d get it checked it out by a doctor, you might need medication.
