Does sunscreen stop your body from absorbing vitamin D from the sun?

This might seem like a stupid question, and I’m sorry if it is, but does it?

Answer #1

I highly doubt it. Sunscreen just keeps you from getting your skin damaged by bad UV rays from the sun.

Answer #2

That’s what I thought, but then I was wondering if the uv rays had something to do with the vitamin d.

Answer #3

Nah, I think sunscreen is only meant to block out the bad things, not good things like vitamin D :)

Answer #4

I’m not sure because I’ve heard that you should go 15 min. in the sun withOUT sunscreen for vitamin D absorbtion, but not more than 15 min.!

Answer #5

Oh, interesting. Okay, thanks!

Answer #6

Yes, actually - it does. However, that doesn’t mean you need to sit in direct sunlight to gather vitamin D from the sun … carrying on with your regular outdoor routine even when the sky is a little overcast will still give you vitamin D - just because the sun is hiding, doesn’t mean it’s gone :)
