When the baseball pitcher throws the ball, why do they sometimes say "ball" instead of "strike"?

Answer #1

He call “ball” when the ptcher throws the ball and its outside the plate where the hitter cudnt hit it. Its a strike when the pitcher throws the ball and its inside the plate and the swinger doesn’t swing

Answer #2

because if its out of hitting range then its called a ball and the pitcher has to re pitch the ball where as a strike is in pitching range and the batter misses the ball :)

With a bit more detail: First of all, understand that there is a ‘Strike Zone’, which (from the pitcher’s viewpoint) is directly above and as wide as home plate, and extends in height from the height of the batter’s knee cap to about mid-chest. Then: If the batter does NOT swing Generally speaking, any pitch that passes through the ‘Strike Zone’ is a STRIKE while ALL other pitches are BALLS If the batter swings and misses, it is a STRIKE
