My dog won't poop in the backyard.

My boyfriend and I adopted a lab mix from the humane society about 10 months ago. He is the best dog we can ever ask for, I have no complaints except for one. We live in a condo and take him on walks daily to poop and pee becasue we don’t want to be rude to the neighbors and have him do it on the patio. However, sometimes we just don’t feel like walking him so we take him to my parent’s house, who live 5 minutes, so he can just hang out in their backyard and poop back there if he needs to go. But, he won’t do it! We’ve tried keeping him back there all day so he will have to go bad enough and just do it, but he will wait until the end of the day when we take him home and take him on his last walk for the day and I know he has been holdong it all day because we have him on a pooping schedule. He has only pooped back there twice and each time we make a huge deal out of it by telling him good bay and giving him snacks so he could see it as a positive thing. Please help us, any advice is wanted! Thanks!

I have a dog that does something simmilar…she wont eat unless she is at home…I don’t know really how to help you but maybe you try leaving him at your parents house overnight..

Best of luck!

HOpefully by now, you have solved your problem. It’s been three months. But, I just had success with the same issue. New dog to us, but 4 years. old and wouldn’t poop in the backyard that we got fenced - just for him! So, I took him on a walk, as usual and he did his business. I bagged the poop and we came home. We immediately went to the backyard and I dumped the bag of poop, showed the dog, praised him and gave him a treat. I did this later too. I pet him and praised him and kept showing him the poop. Today - there’s a new pile (that I did not make) from the dog. I hope it continues and just thought I would share! :)

I’m having this similar problem. Last night he pooped in our bedroom just to avoid going in the backyard! I wanted to send him to the sausage factory after that incident. April your advice sounds like a great idea and I plan on trying it out today.
