Is this a fair use of religious funding?

A religious broadcaster is building a $4 million home in a gated, lakefront community in western South Carolina at the same time that the ministry has cut jobs and reset thermostats to save money in its new headquarters. (from USAtoday, July 2nd)…now, I don’t know about you, but…well, even in the community I live, which is the wealthiest in the country of it’s size, per the 2000 census…a $4 million dollar home is quite specatular (I’ve seen tons).

Is this well, fair? Not to me…but, I could be wrong.

Answer #1

Is it fair to rip off suckers and live like a king? Sure.

Answer #2

then oh “eternallife” why cant “she” just say it clearly instead of writing an epic essay of sorts…

im sorry it seems you are the ones who dont know how to get a point across, and also please answer a question before you barge in to defend a fellow comrade ;)

Answer #3

It I amazing how some people cannot get the point the other is trying to get across. Many people in this site have this problem. They just don’t the particular point trying to be made. They don’t get the point because they are not trying to do that at all instead they interested in something else.

Silverwings was not supporting that particular minister at all. All she was saying was that living in a 4 million house is ok for everyone else why is a man of God alone exempted from this? Now obviously if the particular man has stolen his people then he is wrong and his actions are not justified.

Is life ever fair? Doesn’t matter if it is a religious broadcaster or a union representative, there will always be people who have no conscious when it comes to profiting money off others and living the lifestyle they want even if people around them are falling apart or suffering hardship.

I find it extremely hard to comprehend how this man who calls himself a “preacher of God” and can still afford to splash out $4 million to build a home ( some of the money has got to be donations from his followers) without feeling remorse or guilty that people are suffering during this recession.

Makes you wonder if any of his followers who do experience hardship or are fired from their jobs once this mansion is built, will have the luxury to stay at this religious broadcaster’s place until they can get back on their feets financially. I doubt very much his response will be an eager “YES”.

Sorry if I’m ranting on, I detest so call people who are suppose to be helping others but are only looking after their own pockets and family. Two career occupations I detest with a passion are union bosses and religious preachers who make millions of dollars at the expense of their members and followers. ( Arrhhh do not get me started on union bosses in Oz that’s another hot topic I see red) :(

A few years ago, the media castigaged Jim & Tammy Baker for having a heated and air conditioned dog house, now, Peta, is working with the local officials to demand this of dog owners, and kennel owners in particular.

What makes it wrong for him, and right for everyone else?

The dude… since you state that you live in a very wealthy neighborhood, and that by seeing tons of homes in the 4 million dollar bracket, it seems to be common for you, Please tell me why a man or woman of God, would be expemt from living in such a home.

Especially if that man or woman, happened to have served the Lord of the Universe, all their lives, and who more than likely are living on a salary, from the church they serve, and on royalties from the books they have written…

Tell me, would you, coming from such a background as you describe even give the time of day, to a minster, provided you had one, that didn’t have the same affluence as you?

What would be enough in your eyes? Say you live in a 4 million dollar home, and you are surrounded by multitudes of others, that also live in million dollar plus homes, for your minister, provided you had one ??

One would think that if you went to a church, it would be one of the same status in which you are accustomed, right?

Would you perhaps go” across the tracks” into the poor side of town, to choose a minister??? Or would you think you would prefer one from your own neighborhood???

If this minister was down and out, and wore raggedy clothes, like Columbo, would you want your family associating with him?

Would you trust your children and their future to him? Or would you say as so many have, that one in that position, must not be where he needs to be, with God, or he would not be needy?

Jesus owned nothing, yet he was crucified…

John the Baptist, also owned nothing, and he was beheaded.

If you had a minister, what would you be comfortable with?

Answer #6

I think it’s just as fair as using donations from the congregation to build expensive and elaborate churches and places of worship.

That’s not what the money is meant for, and too many people who have devoted their lives to religious worship seemed to have gotten lost in the purpose - show me the money!

shameful…

Answer #7

I’d have to say that I completely agree with you that it IS unfair Jay.

With a rapidly receiding economy I believe that the so-called “head” of a church should be a better example by using that 4 million dollars to help people find jobs, or to make new jobs for people.

That kind of money admittedly wouldn’t be enough to change anything but it would be a start. All it takes is one persons sacrifice to make a difference, things change. Just look at our history so far and the evidence is clear as day.

Answer #8

I think this is quite fair…

fair to use people to blind to see whats in front of them for ones own gain

you shouldnt blame the corporation, blame the ones who have given the money to them to build such grand homes…

you see this guy on stage with 8 gold rings, a gold chain, a gold rolex and you stand in a dome worth a few hundred thousand dollars and STILL you give money for the building of a new church or the fixing of the old one im sorry are you blind or just stupid?

more insight on this can be seen on the documentary “religulous” by Bill Maher

thats not the whole picture though… private churches also send faithful volunteers to country’s like my one (albania) and they use pretty sneaky tactics to get teenagers (14-18) to join up for “fun” activities, when they get there though the first words they hear from these “cool” american kids is this :

“This is the bible, This will save your soul, if you dont believe in god, you will go to hell…”

im not kidding, then they ask for money so you can study the bible and become one of them…

sad really…

Answer #9

silverwings as much as you love defending religious aspects, this one is a losing battle

a minister doesnt just MAKE 4 million dollars

no man of faith can make 4 million dollars truthfully in his entire life time

you totally suck man…even defending those who CLEARLY have stolen and lied

youre an example of the people I despise, you dont care about people, putting your faith above all is a loathsome deed

you talk crap and thats all you do, you go around questions and never answering anything truthfully that goes against your faith or puts a different light on it…
