How do you solve the equation by factoring ?? Help

2x^2 + 15x - 108 = 0

Or

18x^2 - 57x = - 35

Can anyone help.. Im son confused on those 2.. I really dont know what im doing lol and can you give me the answers too .. Please and thank you =]

Answer #1

seriously, factoring?

Ok, I used the quadratic equation and then worked backwards, so anyhow, the answers were x = 4.5 and x = -12

(2x - 9) (x + 12) = 0

now the real way (of course in the real world, no one is going to demand you use one method, when the other method clearly makes more sense, but since you are still in school)

find factors of 108, so (1,-108), (-1, 108) (-2,54) etc etc, you get the idea

now, it’s (2x ) (x ), since there’s a +, then a -, you know there’s different signs, and now is the time to just fill in the blanks to try and figure out what combination would work…
