How do you lose a large amount of weight safely?

My mother constantly makes comments that make me feel as if I should eat much less, or not at all. Perhaps it isn’t her fault; I’ve gained about 30 lbs in just 3 years (from the beginning of 7th grade to the end of 9th grade). I’ve tried many diets, but consistently, I’ve found that when I eat less than I normally do, I often seem to gain weight. Is this because “starvation mode” causes the body to hang on to fat (though I usually only cut about 500 calories when I diet). What is the best way to avoid this, or to lose weight generally painlessly but effectively? Any comments would be hugely appreciated; it would definitely be great to lose about 15-20 lbs and finally stop feeling so self-conscious, ugly, and disgusting. Thanks!

Heyy, dont listen to that as* sexybeastoftheeast, but i tried starving myself, but it dosent work too well. just eat right and do 200 situps or crunches a day. you will lose 6-10 pounda every 2- weeks if you stick to it. do the special k- cerial diet too.
