How do I know if my dog is blind in one eye?

I was playing fetch with my dog, and when I thew the ball, it hit his eye.The ball has little rubber spikes on the end of it, and once it hit him, he started to squeal. His eye went shut for a few minuets, then I opened up again.Every here and there he will squint his eye.But he acts perfectly fine.Do you think he is blind?

Well if he continues to have an agitated eye, I’d definitely suggest taking him to the vet. Just like a human, if a dog gets poked in the eye, they’ll shut it. If he has any sort of a cut or his eye looks abnormal, I’d go to the vet right away. If he seems okay for right now, I’d give him a while and if it doesn’t get better over the night take him to the vet. His eye may be a little sensitive for the next hour or so though. Just watch him and if he seems okay, I think you don’t have to worry too much. I hope he’s okay! ~Alanna

Eyeballs are pretty rubbery so there’s a good chance hes just got some abrasions. Probably not blind tho, unless it was severe. Look closely at it, is the surface nice and smooth, or are there any irregularities? If there are bumps or grooves or anything weird looking you should probably take him in, otherwise, he will heal up in a few hours like normal when eyes get irritated.

Go to g00gle image search ant type healthy dogs’ eye, find something appropriate, and compare accordingly.

He’s probably not blind from that . . Cover this good eye well then throw a ball/toy (something he/she can’t smell) and if he/she knows where it is it’s not blind and if it can’t find it bring it to the vet . . Sure it’s fine though x
