how did you talk to your significant others about kids?

I have been with my boyfriend for a little over 2 years and my friend brought up kids in a joking way and he said he might not even want kids and he doesn’t want to get married for another 7 years. I of course don’t want kids soon because I’m only 18(he is nearly 23) but I do want one eventually. I haven’t gotten the courage to actually talk to him about it though. I was hoping for some advise.

by text.. thats what I did.. even tho we live together.. once at work I texted him. its was like 5 text long. but got the point accross. most people find it easy to write like a letter or text one another if you find it hard to talk about it or bring it up.
