Peter Tork or birthname Peter Thorkelson had 2 careers to fall back on if the music career didn’t work out. He had a degree to teach English and was working as a waiter, I think. He was also good friends with Stephen Stills of Crosby, Stills, Nash. Stephen Stills tried out for The Monkees, but was turned down because his teeth were too crooked. This prompted Stephen Stills to recommend his friend Peter Tork who had a similar look and style to him. Peter came in to audition for the show knowing it was a comedy, so he intentionally bumped into a wall for comedic effect. It worked and he got the job.
