Why do we learn history in school

Answer #1

NUT10 MII TEACHER TEACHES STUFF FROM LAST YEAR and DA YEAR BEFORE that

Answer #2

You learn history to put the world as you know it in context.

Granted, some of the stuff that you are required to learn is quite useless, most of it is not. Adding to that is the bias that is placed in history courses by various governments, writers and religions to make themselves look good.

Personally, I find history fascinating and read voraciously on Early American, Medieval European, Early Greek, and the Pacific Theater in WWII.

In a smaller sense, everyone is a history lesson. Everything a person does, says and for the most part thinks is based on their personal history. I’ve talked at length with people born in the late 1800’s about what it was like living in the early 1900’s. I’ve talked with WWII vets, US, Japanese and German about their actions in the War.

So in the end, History is supposed to guide and shape our actions. As Ty pointed out earlier, sometimes we don’t learn our lessons very well.

Answer #3

like they said but also we learn everything we learn in school to prepare us for college and careers…some people go to college and major in history there are a ton of jobs out there revolving around it…its nice to know some stuff about your major before you get to college.

Answer #4

because a country with no knowledge of its past is like a tree without roots.

Answer #5

To stop people from repeating past mistakes. It apparently doesnt work, as evidenced by the korean war, the vietnam war, the gulf war, the iraq war, etc etc. But for some reason, someone out there still has hope…

Answer #6

I think that it is important to learn big things… like learning about Hitler and the World Wars… because if it weren’t for the people who fought in those wars… many of us wouldn’t be here today.

But I think that learning a load of stuff from centuries and centuries ago is very unneccessary… it does us no good in the real world… unless you want to become a history teacher or something similar.

So, for most people it proves a useful subject to know a lot about.
