Who knows anything about Harlequin ichthyosis?

so i was just doing some researching today and i just came across a picture that frightened me and when i look into it nad found out why it came up with a result that shocked me intio wanting to find out more its a skin disease, is the most severe form of congenital ichthyosis, characterized by a thickening of the keratin layer in fetal human skin. In sufferers of the disease, the skin contains massive, diamond-shaped scales, and tends to have a reddish color. In addition, the eyes, ears, mouth, and other appendages may be abnormally contracted. The scaly keratin greatly limits the child’s movement. Because the skin is cracked where normal skin would fold, it is easily pregnable by bacteria and other contaminants, resulting in serious risk of fatal infection. and i was wondering do any of u guys know any onfo anout it? can u tell me soem stuff

This rare genetic skin disease occurs in 1 in 4 children and there are about 1 in 1 million carriers(both parents included) for this gene. It is caused by a mutation of a gene that is in charge of transporting fats and liquid to the skin. People with this disease suffer from extreme dehydration and thus, the skin grows tight and begins to crack which can cause infection and loss of blood flow to certain body parts.

That’s all I could find so far without repeating what you already said. There are also very few survivors left. Majority of them live in the U.K. though.

Yep, 1 in 4 children for every 1 in 1 million carriers. Also, 80% of the time, if the parents have a second child, it comes out affected by the gene as well, but tends to live a shorter life. There are some medications out there, but no cure yet.
