Is anyone feeling very lucky after the 6.8 (Richter Scale) earthquake that shook Bali Island and its surroundings?

Answer #1

No, I feel oppressively fearful. The earthquakes seem to be getting more frequent and worse in magnitude, hitting populated areas. When will a big one occur in one of the more developed parts of the world like the U.S., Canada, or Europe? My heart goes out to those that were lost in Bali, and Japan, and Haiti….

I’m from New Zealand, we’ve had Earthquakes for over a year, the biggest was a 6.3 in February that killed 181 people, we’ve had over 8000 aftershocks since Sept 10, so I’m fearful but getting used to them

Answer #3

It is the pacific tectonic plate moving, lately. Haiti may be influenced, but that is a smaller plate. Look at the maps, there was ka-boom in Chile, in New Zealand, in Bali, In Japan… That is once around the Pacific plate. The San Andreas Fault in Western North America is the last one that hasn’t cracked. And my geography teachers said that it was be overdue for a major quake whan I was in school. In the early 90ies. If I were American, or Canadian I’d try to get a job on the east coast for a year or two…. http://funadvice.com/r/15fac8i7noa

You didn’t have a lot of quakes before that, did you? I heard that one of the major problems in NZ is that the first earthquakes came surprisingly and that NZ did not have shock-resistant architecture, like the Japanese have.

Answer #6

Good, your answer was completely correct, need to have a high standard of Geography knowledge. I am feeling very lucky, that the Earthquake wasn’t strong enough to become a Tsunami like the one that happened in Aceh several years ago. I think that was one of signs from God Almighty that we should obey Him and Pray only to Him. Thanks God.
