Do you think it's fair for a teacher to give an assignment worth 100 points after only 3 days of learning the information?

My reading/language arts teacher spent 3 days on similes, metaphors, alliterations, onomatopoeias, and personifcations. I knew what similes, metaphors, and personifcations, but no one knew onomatopoeias or alliterations that well. After the 3 days, he gives us 2 days to complete this in class assignment. If it wasn’t completed, 100% finished you lost 100 points. Do you think it’s fair? I honestly don’t he should have spent one week on this, or waited until the next grading quarter to fit this assignment instead of at last minute.

Nah, I don’t think it’s fair. But alliteration is like: Best Buy, Red Robin, etc. It’s the first letter of a word being the same as the following word. And an onomatopoeia is the sound something makes, like a door doesn’t say SCREECH when it ‘screeches’. But if you did bad on the assignment, just ask for extra credit. If you’re a good student, I don’t see why the teacher wouldn’t give you some E.C. Good luck!(:

Answer #2

THANK YOU someone agrees. Yeah those examples would have been great in class I wish you went to my school and worked on the project with me. He gave examples but the way he was explaining it was confusing. Ahhh….he’s so annoying. But I gotta remember it’s less than 5 more months of hell than I’m free. He doesn’t do extra credit. He gives extra credit when he “feels” like it.

Answer #3

why do people get so confused with onomatopoeia? My dad always gave me one to remember so that I never forget it’s meaning: Piss… True words of wisdom. :D But 3 days is not enough for all that anyway. Especially kids who are slow learners…

Answer #4

I’m not a slow learner I can’t speak for the rest of the class, but he should have explained it a little better. He rushes through everything . I’ve been waiting to do a book report for the past 2 months. Since, he keeps putting me off I have my mom involved. I’m not getting a zero (F) because you wanna keep putting my book talk, which I’ve been done and ready for the past 2 months and have been constantly reminding you for me to go. No that’s not how it works, I’m not gonna fail his class. I complete all my assignments when there are REASONABLE deadlines. -_-

Answer #5

If the test is the same for everyone, and everyone has the same amount of time, and all things are equal, then yes, it is fair. You would have probably hated the idea that I normally give a test at the end of the first day of class.

Answer #6

i wish my teachers gave us that much time to work on material. as you get in higher grades in school, teachers expect you to understand the material they present and if you don’t make the effort to learn it yourself or ask them to explain it further. in lower grades teachers make sure everyone understands a topic before continuing but in middle and high school, there is not enough time to wait for everyone to understand because of the minimal class time.
