Desperate to go outside

About two years ago I caught a stray cat living in a development close to me. He’s very sweet, and I’m very happy I have him. However, he always wants to be outside. He gets crazy, to the point where he won’t let people pet him or anything, he just wants to be outside. He’ll meow for hours when we don’t let him out, and it’s not like he needs to use the bathroom, we keep a litter box inside as well. I really don’t know what to do, any suggestions?

Answer #1

Allow him to be an outside cat - I guess he’s ‘kitty-clostrophobic’ :-)

Answer #2

Did you have him neutered? That helps with some of the desparation that he feels, tho…once they’ve been outside, it’s nearly impossible to “cure”…My cat was an inside/outside cat all his life, by choice…The neutering kept him home, but in his own territory…instead wandering looking for females.

He got used to being outdoors - it’s in his system.

There’s nothing you can do to break him of that, and I’m a major advocate for keeping indoor cats “indoors”, but he was a stray, and that part of him will always be there. You might just have to let him out.

we took in a stray cat last october so we have just had him over a year. when he first came into the house he didnt like people touching him and he used to spit at you and kind of growl at you when you went near his food. he never really bothered about going out but a few months later he used to just sit upstairs on the landing and constantly meow so my mum decided to let him out which I wasnt to keen on because I didnt know if he would come back but he did and now he goes out when ever he wants and he always comes back. my mum said if he goes of he will come back when hes hungry because he know thats this is him home xxx

Answer #5

If you are worried about him. You can leash walk a cat, It will make you both happy

Answer #6

2 of my cats do that. I let them out for a while to be nice though. I guess they want to be free for a moment.
