What do you think of Canada's pay-per-usage proposal regarding internet usage?
ISP’s want to enforce a per-per-use fee that will charge Canadians every time they download data (music, movies, programs, photos, etc), on top of what they pay for internet service. The government is stepping in to try and stop this from happening, but do you think this is fair to the consumer or do you think the ISP’s should have the right to charge for downloaded data?
i think that is a load of bullsh*t, especially in this type of economy right now where no country is really doing well they want to charge more for things. that is so stupid.
From what I read (today) it seems like it’s going to be overturned. I’m glad, as the whole notion was idiocy…(sorry).
I’m already poor enough as it is and I definately will not be able to handle paying a pay-per-use plan. Definately not fair, the companies already clearly make enough money.
I think Bell and Rogers are being greedy and don’t like the competition of the smaller companies and I am very glad our government is overturning it. I work online and definitely cannot afford paying per GB used.
thats stupuid cus your already paying the isp to download your monthly data anyway and now they want to charge you again…
one word come to mind, ghey.
infact its so stupid it can have another ghey making it a double ghey idea.
I think it’s beyond ridiculous. If I’m paying my ISP for ‘unlimited’ internet usage, they had best not try and charge me extra. If they want to get paid better for their internet options then they could change their package rates, but I highly doubt that I’d stay with a company that wants to basically double charge me.
Australia is going well financially, except Queensland at the moment.
It is sort of like mortgage derivatives and carbon credits. The big service industry is looking to create products that don’t really exist outside of their markets. They can be traded… bought and sold… but they’re not anything tangible.
Even though the data is quantifiable… everything of value has already been compensated for. The infrastructure is already there. Users already pay the energy costs that would be required to transfer any data. If the data is copyrighted, the user pays those fees and if not the data is provided by an outside source. The ISP isn’t producing anything for the surcharge. They are price gouging. I think it is an abhorrent policy.
