Bad Handwriting

My 13 year old son has handwriting like a 6 year old should I be worried? What can I do to help him is this a problem ?

Answer #1

I am 37 and still write like a 6 year old. It is normal and most likely will never chance. Tell him to write smaller and slower.

Answer #2

No, you shouldn’t be worried. All great people have bad handwriting.

Let him copy something written in good handwriting. He should keep doing it until his hand gets used to it.

Answer #3

no dont be worried.. lol. many people are succesfull with bad handwritting.. just have him write over top of your hand writting… tell him to slow his writting down so he has time to make each letter the right way. lol :D

Answer #4

Don’t be worried I’m 13 and nearly every boy in my class has messy handwriting, I think it’s normal, but it should get neater as he gets a bit older, they normally change then :)

Answer #5

If your son has great difficulty writing and copying than he may have a developmental delay called dysgraphia. There are techniques that can help your son. Since you are concerned you should try to have him evaluated to see if remediation is necessary or if your son just needs more practice at penmanship.

Answer #6

THIS IS SO NORMAL, I ACTUALLY TALKED TO MY 9 YR OLD DAUGHTERS TEACHER SHE TOLD ME MY DAUGHTER HAD HAND WRITING OF A 6TH OR 7 TH GRADER IT WAS SO PERFECT I ASKED WELL ISNT EVERYONES? SHE SAID IN ALL MY YEARS OF TEACHING ALL I’ve SEEN IS KIDS WITH SLOPPY WRITING. ITS A TREAT TO SEE A CHILD WITH GOOD HANDWRITING,HOWEVER ITS A BIG PAIN TOO. I ASKED HOW IS THAT? SHE SAID BECAUSE SHE IS SO DETAIL ON HOW PERFECT IT IS THAT WHILE THE REST OF THE CLASS IS ON THE OTHER ASSIGNMENTS SHE IS STILL ON THE FIRST ONE JUST TRYING TO MAKE IT PRETTY. YOUR SON IN TIME WILL HAVE GOOD HANDWRITING. IF HE CHOOSES NOT TO ITS HIS STYLE. A HANDWRITING IS A STYLE NOT A CARPET YOU CHOOSE FOR A HOUSE. ALL YOU CAN DO IS ENCOURAGE HIM TO GET HIS WORK DONE.

Answer #7

No, a lot of 13 year olds have bad handwriting - it’s just not very important to them at that age.
