1000 dollar puppy or one from the shelter?

In my opinion-I dont understand why people buy 1000 dollar puppies from stores that buys them from breeders. I realize that the dogs are very cute and what not, but people should take a better look at the dogs at humane society for dogs that actually need homes! There just as cute. I know people have different opinions on it, and thats mine.

Anyways,What do you guys prefer and why?

I’d always go to a shelter. In a lot of shelters, if an animal is there too long, they put it to sleep. So why pay a ton of money for a puppy when you can go to a shelter and possibly save one’s life? It’ll also stop the shelters from getting over crowded.

I would NEVER buy a dog from a pet store unless I cold get information on where it came from. Truth be told, most of the dogs in pet stores come from puppy mills. I’ve seen a buch of shows and read articles on puppy mills. They are HORRIBLE. In fact, the last time I was at the animal shelter (looking for my missing cat) they had a puppy that was brought to them after the police (or whoever) raided a puppy mill. It only had one eye, half of it’s nose/mouth was gone, and it could barely hear. It couldn’t even bark! I wanted to take the poor thing home. It was SOO cute despite it’s defects. But the healthy, normal looking dogs from puppy mills are given to pet stores to sell. Which just encourages these idiots to keep going with there puppy mills.

Also, if you get a dog from a breeder, you never know what kind of living conditions those dogs live in. They do it for the money, anyway.

Save a life, or feed someone’s bank account? I’ll save the life.

Sorry I wrote a ton. I’m very passionate about this subject.

It’s one thing to buy a dog from a good breeder and pay $1000, if it is a breed that YOU want…if you’re just looking for a “dog”, then absolutely save a life and go to the shelter…

Buying a $1000 dog at a petstore, is about as practical as taking that money…adding another thousand to it, and flushing it down the toilet…puppymill puppies really don’t have a chance in hell…between health and temperment problems…and for us, the general public…a Petstore puppy usually ends up being a total ripoff.

I have lived with a person who breeds beagles. Watching 3 females and one male. The females try to kill each other while pregnant. So many people complain that the puppies are violent or have scars and scratches due to the puppies fighting and the parents. I personally think that if you want a certain dog look it up. Find one at at a shelter on on pet finder. If that fails then a store with a good rep. I think that all sheltered animals dogs cats ferrets and ect. Should be adopted first. (My brothers dog accidentally got pregnant and he gaves the puppies away for free to good homes)

SHELTER.!

Answer #8

Well, if you just want a dog, hit the shelter. Nothing wrong with that. Doggies need families, too. If you want a pure-bred or a puppy with papers, though you’ll need to dish out some dough.

I, personally, want a Beagle that’s AKC certified. Pure-bred with papers. I know it won’t be cheap, but that’s just me. I wouldn’t mind picking up a Golden Retriever, either, though. I’ll pick him up at the shelter, though.

I’m not set on certain ways. I’ll dip into both pots. :)
