Can you get a router to pick up wireless internet signals?? Is it illegal?

Answer #1

A household router cannot retrieve other signals; it can merely generate its own. Your laptop can use a wireless network “sniffer” to search for signals that may be hidden, but actually connecting to them is an issue in its own. The legality of connecting to a network that you don’t have authorization to connect to is questionable; as you’ll most likely need to crack into the server with password decrypters or bruteforce utilities, which are illegal in this instance. What exactly are you trying to do here?

Answer #2

You could, if you were at her house. You need to realize that there is no such thing as “free” wireless internet, unless you’re at a Starbucks or anyplace with a wireless hot spot. To access the internet via wireless you need to access a wireless router, which in turn needs to be linked to the internet. I still don’t understand what you’re trying to do here. Are you attempting to get wireless internet ANYWHERE? Like Verizon Mobile Broadband? Because that requires a special card and subscription to their wireless service to access the internet anywhere in the world via satellite.
