Will a skipping rope help me lose weight?

I have put on 6 pounds in the last 3 weeks as I have been ill. I am still am not 100% but I am going on holiday in 10days and I want to actually be able to wear my clothes I brought. So does a skipping rope help people lose weight, if so how often do I need to do it and how long for? Also how many squats and calf raises do I need to do to tone my legs, how often? What else could I do to lose the weiht and tone up my legs and stmach fast? thanks

yes go for at least 30 minutes. jogging for at least 30 minutes is good too. go swimming, tennis, squash.
