Why do I panic when I am home alone (Not Healthy Panic)?

When I am home alone (Btw I’m 14)My dog scares the life out of me when he barks I think someone is there. I stay in my room with several knifes, my cell, my house phone and a little bit of food. I hyperventilate and somtimes I cant breathe when I hear sounds from downstairs. I usually don’t eat. One time a sales man came and rang the doorbell and I screamed so loudly next thing I knew the police were here. My mom told me to ask you guys what I should do. I have never had any mental problems/seen any scary movies. P.S I always think there are scary clowns around my house.

Uhm I think this would qualify as a mental problem. I mean it is some sort of anxiety. You panic because of what you’re telling yourself. And the fact that you’re locked up in our room with knives, phones and a little food is just reinforcing your belief that there is something to fear (I.e. your behavior is convincing you that there really is something to fear). I really would consider some sort of therapy.

Well that is called anxiety, and clown phobias are not that uncommon. You need to conquer your fears by getting out of your room, and just keep telling yourself that nothing is going to happen because it wont, you’ll be ok and you feel so unsafe coming out of your room, then lock all doors when your home alone and close the curtains, and talk to a counselor. What your also feeling is insecurity, perfectly normal, when your home alone call a friend and stuff to take the fear off your mind. Trust me, nothing bad is going to happen you st feel ensecure, and therapy may help but also conquering your fears is the best. You just have to keep telling yourself that nothing bad is going to happen to you.
