Why do I jump when I sleep?

I am in high school, and since school started, I’ve been sleeping in school a lot, perhaps I did not get enough sleep. I rarely slept back in middle school. Usually, when I get so tired or sleepy at school in the classrooms, I would put my head down on my arms in my desk, and most of the time, the microsleep starts. Suddenly, you know, my body (from my head to my waist) starts jumping and I banged the desk. It woke me up right when my body started jumping for no reason, and I always looked around to see if anyone looked at me because I was so embarrassed when it happens. I am very sure nothing was touching me nor was I dreaming that my body started jumping, but I still think this has to do with my nervous system? This never happened when I sleep in my bed but only when I am at school and sleeping with my head down on the school desk. Has anyone experienced something like this before? What do you think might be that caused my body to jump? What can I do to prevent this?

Answer #1

PEOPLE SAY I JUMP IN MY SLEEP BUT I NEVER BELIEVED THEM I DOZED OFF AND I JUMPED SO HARD IT WOKE ME UP… WHY AM I DOIN THAT?

Answer #2

It happens when your conciousness is pulled back into your body without warning. You were entering a dream state and your mind was relaxed, feeling free to wonder. But it’s always attatched to your body by a metaphorical elastic string. So the jumping is when you are pulled back in!
