Try the word “decorum”, from the LAtin meaning “proper, fit, becoming”. Also less likely to lead to accusations that the Doc was oggling and enjoying the spectacle.

Many male doctors now have a femal assistant present when they’re examining female patients, again to prevent accusations of impropriety (there’s another good word not often heard these days!).

It’s just the rules - plus a lot of people feel a lot more awkaward when they are practicly stipping in front of a another person. They could also have on some embaressing underwear or undergarments that they don’t want to be seen.

Considering what the Dr. does while he’s IN the room, it is strange that they bother to leave when you dress… :)

to make the situation a little less awkward, they probably have other stuff they could be doing instead of watching you disrobe

I would say two reasons.

  1. It is the respectful and decent thing to do
  2. yes the doctors go do other things while you are changing.
