Help with my yellow and sore teeth

haven’t been to the dentist in over a year. I got my braces out about 5 months ago and they have moved back, they weren’t as bad as the were before but are slightly overlapping again. Also my teeth are really discoloured and yellowish and one of my front teeth has gone a weird grey/black colour. They also seem a lot longer than they used to be, like my gums have went down more or something? They bleed everytime I brush them, and no I don’t brush my teeth twice a day I usually forget. I don’t have an nhs dentist anymore as I was living away from home and I’m not on their files anymore. Also I can’t go back to my orthodontist as I’m finished uni now and it’s not free anymore. Also I smoke, so thats why my teeth are so yellow Oh, and no I didn’t wear my retainer, I couldn’t talk with it and it fell out. Now I can’t wear it cause my teeth have moved.

any advice?

well if you cud pay 4 it im sure that sumthing cud be done but oral treatment costs thousands of pounds or dollars. unfortunately the best treatment is braces but that will cost you a lot now as you don’t get it covered anymore I’ve got braces and apprently my treatment costs ten thousand pounds and I know its easier said than done you need 2 give up smoking hardly any dentists will touch you if you smoke

a few things… you will prob have to go back to the ortho and get braces on again.. once you get them off again..ask for a permanent retainer..they dont hurt you can talk normal and no body sees it (I have an upper and a lower permanent retainer) the fact that your gums are bleeding can be from either cavaties, or your brushing too hard.. the tooth that has gone a grayish color…u need to go get that checked asap…it could be a cavatie or something more serious

you set yourself up

Hi yeah, It can take a long time to change color. maybe you can find a dental clinic in your area. They are usually cheaper except you will have a student dentist. But they are under the supervision of licenced dentists. If you need root canal on that tooth, while the tooth is opened, they will bleach it from the inside out.

Hey Ok I AM A DENTAL ASSISTANT AND ALSO WORK WITH AN ORTHODONTIST IN OUR OFFICE FOR THE PAST TWO YEARS. I can try to answer some of your questions. first the color, having your teeth bleeched is expensive, I have found rembrandt is very good I use that my self. The smoking does contribute to the yellowing. If your teeth are bleeding you need to brush more, atleast 2 to 3 minutes 2Xs a day. I am not saying hard, but effective. You need to also brush your gingiva (gums) like a massage for your gums,, in small circular motions. You can even do this while watching TV, for the mssage, you don’t even need toothpaste. This is to toughen up the gums around your teeth. As far as your teeth looking longer, this sounds as if you need a periodontist, your gums are reseding and this can eventually cause your teeth to become loose. so you need to floss also. Your dentist by law has to keep your files for 7 years. They may not have you on their computer system but they have to keep your records for 7 years. Your teeth are like a rubber band, they have a memory and will try to move back. You can go back to your orthodintist, and you can bring your retainers with you, some times I repeat “only sometimes” can the retainers be re adjusted to fit, and they will be tight if they are able to do that, but chances are, they would want to take new impressions and make new models. if you are able to do this, maybe they will work out a finacial arrangement for you. If you get retains or if you are able to use your old ones, you need to wear them for a length of time to get them back to the way they where if they are not to far gone. Then eventually you will only need to wear them only at night, usually 3 or 4 nights a week, and we tell our patients that it is advised that you should wear them your entire life to keep them from moving back. I know it sounds weird, but as you have already found out, many adults in their 30’s want braces again because they didn’t wear them like they were told when in their teens. Wearing them only at night is a small scarafice to keep your teeth straight after all the money spent to get them that way to begin with.

BTW it is possable to go to another orthodontist and get new treatment, but they will need to re evalutate your mouth and take x rays etc.,,, even your old orthdontist will want to do this. But you should try to get something done. I hope this helped. good luck…

oh yeah one more thing, you have a tooth that is grey/ black, .. did you ever hit your teeth or fall that caused injury? sometimes the normal color can return, I see it a lot in my tiny patients, and it could also have abcessed causing the nerve to die, this would cause it to turn dark also. this would require root canal. an Endodontist for that.
